Baptism

In this parish parents are invited to particpate in a pre-baptism preparation evening along with the parish priest. This will help the parents to understand the importance of baptism, the role of sponsors or godparents, the choice of a Christian name, the anointing with holy oil and significance of water in the baptism ceremony.

At least one parent and godparent should be a practising member of the Catholic community.

THE  SEVEN  SACRAMENTS  IN  THE  LIFE  OF  A  CATHOLIC

The life of a person living the Christian faith in communion with the Catholic Church will be constantly in touch with the seven Sacraments which are sources of "grace" from God through the Holy Spirit - essentially, the Sacraments provide help at various stages on our pilgrimage of life.

The first and most important of the Sacraments is that of Baptism which initiates a person into the Christian faith.

This faith is nurtured by the sacraments of Confirmation, Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist.

Confirmation is received only once, usually before a child leaves primary school. Reconciliation and Eucharist should feature regularly in the life of a Christian.

The Sacraments of Marriage and Holy Orders are for adults who choose to commit their lives in a certain way.

The Sacrament of the Sick, which, in times past has been referred to as "Extreme Unction" or "Last Rites", is now, more properly, recognised as a Sacrament for those who are sick, but not necessarily dying! It is a sacrament of healing and comfort!
