Parish Gathering
Calendar
First Holy Communion
On Sunday 30th May, four of our children completed their initiation into the Church as they received Holy Communion for the first time.
We celebrate with them and their families on this special occasion.
The Parish Pastoral Council was delighted to see everyone who came for the Parish Gathering on the 20th of June.
Gathering over a buffet generously prepared by members of our SVdP Conference, over 90 people filled our wee hall to celebrate what we are as a parish, and look to the future. Food, chat and a lot of laughter together, as we reflected on how we might mark the visit of Pope Benedict XVI in the autumn, and look beyond that to the parish’s 50th Anniversary in 2012 (now just over 18 months away!). A final series of questions invited people to look around the parish more generally and see what priorities we might have for the near future.

Easter joy for OLGC!
A moving and prayerful journey through Holy Week and
the Easter Triduum reached its climax at the Easter Vigil
on Saturday 3rd April. Having lit the Paschal Candle
from the Easter fire and brought the light of the Risen
Jesus into the church, we reflected on God's saving
love and life-giving power from the Creation to the
Resurrection, and witnessed that power in action for
Latoya Gerry-Ovbiolokun of our parish, whose journey
through the rites of RCIA reached its climax when she
was baptised, confirmed and shared Holy Communion with us. Her joy was evident - and highly infectious! Everyone left feeling uplifted and renewed having celebrated Easter in such a moving and powerful way!

Congratulations to our children who celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time on the weekend of 21st March, a big step towards their full initiation into the Church through Confirmation and Holy Communion.
A big 'Thank You' also to their parents, school teachers and our parish catechists who all worked hard to make sure they were so well prepared.
A Feast of Giving
A 'Curry Night' organised by some of the parishioners raised over £1000 for SCIAF's Haiti appeal. Held in the parish Hall on Saturday 27th February, a great turn-out of people enjoyed some wonderful food - all prepared and donated by generous parishioners - as well as good chat, music, and a raffle.
Added to the Sunday Appeal from late January, almost £6000 has now been raised for this worthy cause - a real testament to the generosity of people, even at a time when everyone's finances are tight!
