Holy Mass or Eucharist

The blessing and consecrating of bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ, was initiated at Christ's Last Supper with his Apostles. It has continued down through the centuries and is the central worship within the Catholic Church. The priest can choose from several different Eucharistic prayers - whichever is most appropriate for the occasion.

Holy Mass is celerated in this church each weekday as well as several times over each weekend.

It is also central to Catholic marriages and funerals.

Holy Eucharist

The Eucharist, or sharing of bread, is at the very heart of the Catholic liturgy. It is a re-enactment of the Last Supper. The Eucharist or Mass is celebrated daily in most Catholic churches.

During Mass the priest will preside during the Readings from scripture and then lead the people in the blessing of bread and wine, which, when consecrated, becomes the Body and Blood of Christ which is then distributed to the people at Holy Communion.

This is a very devout and prayerful time for Catholic people who always show deep respect to the Holy Eucharist. Outwith Mass times, the Eucharist is reserved in most churches in the tabernacle.

There is a picture of the tabernacle on our gallery.
