two fine local Catholic schools
St Denis' Primary is located in Meadowpark Street, near Duke Street, and is a 7-year Catholic primary school, which children from age 5 to age 12 from our parish normally attend.
St Mungo's Academy was founded in 1859 by the Marist
Brothers for the working class Catholic boys of the East End
of Glasgow. In the 1990s it merged with Our Lady and St
Francis Secondary (its equivalent secondary school for
girls, founded by the Franciscan sisters of the Immaculate
Conception) to become a mixed comprehensive, 6-year
secondary school.
Both our schools are run by Glasgow City Council Education Department, with the Church represented on their Parent Councils. The Archdiocese has authority over the teaching of Religious Education, including the provision of moral and relationships education. In addition, the Archbishop has the right to approve those appointed to posts on staff in the Catholic schools in Scotland.
From its base in our parish Hall, SCES offers support and guidance to Scotland's Catholic schools, and advocates on their behalf to local and national government.
The Director is Michael McGrath. More information can be found at the website www.sces.uk.com
This is a video put together to showcase Catholic education and the work of SCES, first shown at Bellahouston Park ahead of the Papal Mass in September 2010.
