About Us

Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish is a Roman Catholic parish of the Archdiocese of Glasgow, Scotland.

Founded in 1962, it serves the Catholic population of part of Glasgow's Dennistoun district. It is bounded to the north by the M8 motorway, to the south by Duke Street, to the East by Wishart Street and Wellpark, and, in the East, by Alexandra Park and Cumbernauld Road.

A daughter of St. Anne's Parish, Whitevale Street, its church was designed and built by the well-known architectural firm of Gillespie, Kidd and Coia and was formally opened by the Archbishop of Glasgow, Archbishop James Donald Scanlan, in 1965. It was solemnly dedicated by His Eminence Thomas Joseph Cardinal Winning on the 28th April 1996.

At present, the parish is home to many people who have lived in Dennistoun for many years. However, it is has also seen some growth in recent years as a desirable place to live, owing to the fine Victorian and Edwardian villas, terraces and tenements in the area. A new population of young professionals together with young people living in the area while attending Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian Universtites, which are both near at hand, has afforded the area in recent years a vibrant and interesting character. As a result, Our Lady of Good Counsel parish is a thriving and welcoming parish community.
